Material ConneXion®: an international network

Material ConneXion® is the most important international network for research and consulting on innovative and sustainable materials. Founded in 1997 by George Beylerian, today, Material ConneXion® is part of the Sandow Media Group, a company leader in the publishing industry in the U.S. It has several branches in Europe and Asia.

Material ConneXion® acts as a generator of links and contacts between producers of innovative and sustainable materials and their potential users, be they companies or freelance professionals.

Material ConneXion® Italia intervenes in this relationship by developing consulting projects where innovation starts from the material and is realized through the design. Material ConneXion® also supports manufacturers through the promotion and dissemination of the innovative solutions they propose.

Material ConneXion® Italia

Founded in 2002, Material ConneXion® Italia provides consulting for varying types of design and production companies, developing a significant experience in supporting strategic companies. The headquarters in Milan hosts a library of more than 4,000 physical materials of which about 2,500 are permanently exhibited.

Material ConneXion® Italia has a long history of projects done for leading companies in various differing sectors.

Rodrigo Rodriquez


He’s President since November 2011. He was born in Rome in 1937, is married to Adele Cassina and has four children. Former president of Cassina S.p.A. and FederlegnoArredo, today Rodriquez is Vice President of Flos S.p.A., President of Forza Projects Ltd, Vice President A.I.P. – Italian Association of Industrial Policies, Member of the Board of Arbitrators of Confindustria, Board Member of Fondazione COSMIT, Honorary President and President of Social Affairs Commission of UEA – Union Européenne de l’Ameublement, Board Member of the ADI Foundation for Italian Design. Since 2013 he is Chairman of Consorzio SiExpo2015, Sustainability and Innovation of Expo 2015.


Emilio Genovesi


Since 2001 he is member of the Board of Directors, and from 2007 CEO. Since January 2012 he collaborates with the City of Milan on the Expo City project in view of Expo 2015. Since January 2013 he’s project leader of the Biodiversity Park, Theme Pavilion in ExpoMilano2015Since 1992 he has collaborated with Domus Academy. As Managing Director he consolidated the two postgraduate Master courses in Design and Fashion Design, led the planning and launching of four new Masters in Urban Management and Architectural Design, in Interaction Design, in Interior and Living Design and in Business Design. He particularly followed the educational and research paths dedicated to the relationship between Design and Business Strategy. On these issues, in addition to having promoted numerous conferences and initiatives in Italy, in recent years he has held conferences in France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Turkey, Japan, China, Korea and Hong Kong as part of the network relationships of universities and research centres related to DA. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to the development of DARC promoting the international market and managing and/or participating in numerous projects.Since 2007, he’s been writing a column dedicated to the topics of design and corporate strategy in the Nòva24 insert of Sole 24 Ore newspaper. From 1985 to 1992 he was marketing and communications manager of a famous Italian design company.


Anna Pellizzari

She is Executive Director since 2012. She began her career as a graphic designer in 1987, first at Zanon developing communication plans for the sports sector, for eyewear and for the food industry; then at Onami Design, a company whereby she’s been a partner since 1989. After attending several short courses at FIT, Central St Martins and Domus Academy, she extended her professional experiences to the project of materials and finishes, working with various companies in the sports and automotive industries. From the second half of the 1990s she developed meta-projects for Italian and international companies, and increased her experience in design management through collaborations with different groups of designers. From 2006 to 2009 she collaborated with the Research Centre of Domus Academy, and from 2010 to 2011 is partner and senior project manager of DARCmilano.


Christian Tubito

He obtained her degree in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano with specialised orientation in Strategic Design, carrying out training periods and research at Philips Design in the Netherlands – “Trends, strategies and human behavior” department – and at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia. He collaborated with Domus Academy in the Business Design Master Course in the teaching and coordination activities. From 2007 to 2010 he worked as a consultant at the Research and Consultancy Centre at Domus Academy, where he followed strategic design projects, special projects and training programmes for companies and institutions. From 2006 to 2012 he collaborated with Plastic Consult – Materioteca®, consulting centre on plastics. Since 2010 he collaborated with DARCmilano, design agency that works alongside companies in the areas of strategic design, brand identity and product innovation. Over the years he was a guest lecturer for different institutions and has designed training courses; today he collaborates with IlSole24 Ore-Business School for the Master in Design Management. Since 2011 he collaborates with Material ConneXion Italia managing consulting and international projects at European research funding and design-driven innovation and knowledge sharing.


Micol Costi

She studied Industrial Design with a Product orientation in Germany, continuing her studies in Italy, dedicating herself to Industrial Design for the Fashion Industry, and then followed a specialisation course in Brand Identity and Packaging Design. She is the head of the research team of Materials and Innovative Processes at Material ConneXion Italia, providing consulting services to international clients of diverse sectors and handles, among other things, exhibitions dedicated to sustainable design and eco-friendly materials. She is co-author of publications on innovative materials and sustainability in design and planning. She consistently holds Innovation Workshops and has been a speaker at international conferences and panel discussions, focusing, among other things, on the opportunities offered by the transfer of materials and technology solutions. She has given lectures and seminars at several universities. Italian native speaker, she speaks German, English and French.


Claudia Reder

claudia-rederSenior Materials Researcher

She studied History of Art, Film and Media Sciences, English and Italian at the Philipps- Universität Marburg in Germany and later studied Interior Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Milan. She worked as a designer of exhibition areas and window dressing of retail stores in Italy. She became a researcher in Materials and Innovative Processes at Material ConneXion Milano, providing consulting services to international clients of diverse sectors and handled exhibitions and projects dedicated to materials, innovative and eco-friendly processes. She held workshops on innovative and sustainable materials and processes for architecture, interior and furniture design and fashion. She was a speaker at Domus Academy and held a series of lectures at the Polytechnic School of Design and Naba. German native speaker, she speaks Italian and English.


Veronica Sarbach

After graduating at the Art High School in Zurich, she moved to Milan where she obtained a bachelor in Product Design at NABA. Further studies included a higher education course “Design for Kids & Toys” and a master degree in “Color Design & Technology” both courses organized by the Polytechnic of Milan. In 2015 she joined Material ConneXion Italia to assist Christian Tubito in managing the European funded research projects focused on design-driven innovation and knowledge sharing.



Giulio Marzi

A graduate in Industrial Design at the Politecnico of Turin, he worked for an Architecture firm in Turin in the design sector and then in the Installations Office of a great Museum in Milan. He has carried out product design, furniture, store and museum installations, 3D modeling jobs. Since 2010 he collaborates with Material ConneXion Italia as Account Manager, handling expo events and the Materials Village.


Federica Agati

With a degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation applied to the economic sector, she worked for the marketing department of the Mexican Consulate and subsequently in an asset manager in the environmental innovation sector as Office Manager Support & Administrative Assistant. Today she works for Material Connexion as Executive Assistant to the CEO.


Maria Giovanna Sicignano

She obtained his degree in Naples in Conservation of Cultural Heritage with an orientation towards “Cultural and Artistic Heritage” After a brief experience in organising and managing the library service and assisting in the preparation of personal exhibitions of different artists, she attended web master courses. Since 2010 she collaborates with Material ConneXion Italia as head of the company showroom and website management.She works alongside the press office for web communication, contributes to the graphic creation of a few projects and organises business events and exhibitions.


Federica Pastonesi

She obtained her degree in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, attended the London Guildall University (Furniture Design) and graduated from the Arsenale of Milan (body expression). She developed a solid experience in different architectural firms (studio Vudafieri – Sistematica 2000 – Studio Navone Associati). From 2000 to 2004 she worked at the Research Centre of the Domus Academy in Milan, on architectural projects and exhibitions, before becoming the coordinator of Metaprojects. She continued her collaboration with Domus Academy Milan up until 2008, when she began collaborating with Material ConneXion Italia. Coordinator of medium sized Special Projects (more than 100 users) she carries out different activities: basic research, project planning and coordination of all the working groups, preparation of communication and design of the final exhibitions’s layout, coordination of the implementation phase.
